Stoneridge, a continuing care retirement community, is located in Milton, Washington, which is a bedroom community to the City of Tacoma, the third largest city in the State of Washington with a population of just over 200,000. The site is prominently located at top of a ridge along the eastern edge Interstate 5, the primary conduit to the City of Seattle. An adjacent site is available and has been designed to expand the IL cottages neighborhood by 63 units.
The community is located on a high ridge with a commanding view of 14,410 ft Mt. Rainier, and with visibility from the freeway, it captures a "king of the hill" destination quality. The master plan includes phasing to include the full range of living environments and service needs of the target market.
The common space in the Lodge Building is the centerpiece of the community for all residents and is located at the highest elevation on the site, which affords the best views. A subsequent phase will include a clubhouse, which will supplement the dining, recreation and social programs of the Stoneridge community as the residential population grows.
The residential cottage units feature vaulted ceilings and high transom window to allow deep penetration of daylight, and connect residents with the vertical nature of the outdoors in alignment with the tall trees. The duplex/triplex construction offers an economy of construction to keep the cottage on the affordable end of the spectrum.
To accommodate aging in place, the community is designed and licensed to provide assisted living services, which, in Washington State allows individual units to be licensed for assisting living on an as-needed basis, as the needs of the resident change. Living units provide all accessibility and adaptability features required for licensure.
